Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review
My mom and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon for a quick one night stay in December, and overall it was a great stay. This is not a great hotel if you want to stay in the center of Lisbon’s historic district (Alfama or Baixa), but otherwise, it is excellent, especially if you want to stay in the Belem area. Moreover, this is an excellent hotel. The amenities, breakfast, and service were all great. But my favorite part of this hotel was this room and the common areas, as I found the property to feel so livable. Let’s get into this Hyatt Regency Lisbon review…
Booking
I booked the Hyatt Regency Lisbon for in September ahead of our December stay. This isn’t the best price for a European Hyatt in low season, but overall, this hotel is not cheap. In addition, this was my 30th (and last night of the year), so it was worth it for the free night certificate. The cheapest this Hyatt gets is per night in mid-February, according to MaxMyPoint, and it goes up to per night for St. Martin’s Day in Mid-November.
This hotel is also a Category 4 in the World of Hyatt program, meaning it costs 12,000 points off-peak, 15,000 on standard dates, and 18,000 points on peak dates as determined by the hotel. During off-peak times, such as when we were staying in December, using points is not a good deal. But, during St. Martin’s day or during the summer, points represent a great deal.
Hyatt Privé can also be a good deal at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon, especially during off-peak dates. The hotel offers a $100 property credit (which is equivalent to , breakfast for two, a welcome amenity, and early check-in. That said, you must stay for two or more nights at all Hyatt Regency hotels. If you are interested or have any questions about the Hyatt Regency Lisbon as well as any other hotel with travel agent perks, feel free to email me at [email protected].
Location
The Hyatt Regency Lisbon is located in the outskirts of Lisbon’s Bélem neighborhood. This is a bit out of the historic area of Lisbon, so if you are wanting to walk around the main part of the city, then this is not the hotel for you. If you are interested in that, then I would recommend staying at a boutique hotel. They tend to be far cheaper and are often in better areas. We stayed at the Figueira Boutique Hotel, and I would highly recommend it, particularly for its location.
But, that’s not to say I didn’t like the location. It was great since we already stayed in the main part of Lisbon, and it meant we could visit the Bélem tower, which was stunning, as well as walk along the beautiful Tagus river. During our Portugal trip, the weather was perfect, so I would gladly visit in December.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review – Check-in
Since we were staying in low season, I thought we were almost certainly going to get a suite. In the days leading up to the stay, there was also Regency suites available. But, we did not end up getting one. We came in via train from the Algarve (the Southern) region of Portugal, and since our train arrived at noon, we arrived at the hotel shortly thereafter. Because of that, there was not any suites available until closer to the check in time. I also never saw them upgrade us on the World of Hyatt app. But, I wasn’t feeling the best at the time, so I was glad to get to our room at noon and I didn’t bother asking about a suite upgrade. The front desk staff were all excellent.
The lobby area was also decorated with some very nice Christmas decorations.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Twin Room
Our room, 329A, was located on the fourth floor, as the ground floor is 0 in Europe, rather than 1 in the US. In addition, since the rooms are A and B, there is a 329 door that allows you to close just that door and make it so you can adjoin both rooms. I wish more hotels had this, as it is much better than the connecting rooms door that is shared between the rooms in the US.
This room is full of storage. When you enter, there is a closet area on the left, and then between the bathroom and the main part of the room, there is another closet that is even bigger.
Further down is the bathroom. There is a sink on the right, which has great water pressure, as well as a large mirror that displays the current time. Behind that is a toilet and shower. There is a glass partition separating them, as well as a two glass doors on each side of the partition separating the shower and toilet. I also found the shower to be amazing due to the water pressure. It was also quite easy to operate for European standards.
Then there is the main room. Similar to most new hotel rooms, there was light wood flooring throughout. The walls were also a similar tan color.
We booked and were given a 2 twin bed hotel room, but we still shared the same sheets and bed spread, which was a bit odd. The bed was also very large, so it wasn’t an issue. In addition, there was USB ports and power outlets on each side of the bed.
There was also 2 large bottles of water in the room, and next to that was a Nespresso coffee maker.
Lastly, all rooms at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon feature a balcony. That doesn’t mean that there is going to be a good view though. The hotel is shaped in a “U” of sorts, and since we were in the inner part, our view mostly consisted of a courtyard, as well as a small view of the Tagus River and the 25 de Abril Bridge. So if you want a view of a river, the best views are from the front of the “U”, as well as the front left part of the building also has a great view of both the river and the bridge.
Thoughts on the Room
Overall, as I mentioned previously, this room was excellent. That being said, there was two quirks. For one, the toiletries were the large multi-use bottles and due to their size, they didn’t fit inside the wall cutout. This meant you had to put those on the floor, which is a bit strange. In addition to that, I also found it weird that although we got a 2 twin bed room, there was one sheet shared between the beds. It wasn’t much of an issue, especially because of the fact that the bed was very big. But no matter what, I found it odd.
Besides that, the room design was excellent. This has got to be one of my favorite standard rooms, as I found the decor as well as well as the overall design of the room to be stunning. In addition to that, there was so much storage in the room with two large closets, as well as drawers underneath the TV.
WiFi was fast and free, and there was power outlets throughout the room.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review – Fitness Center/Gym
The gym was located on Level 0 (the ground floor), which is a floor below the lobby. This hotel is a little over 2 years old, which means that the equipment is likely to be very new. That was indeed the case, as it was all very new Technogym equipment. Both times the gym equipment was never crowded, and although it is staffed during the day, it is open 24/7.
Spa and Pool
The Hyatt Regency Lisbon has a spa located on the ground floor. It was not open when I was there, but it looked very nice from the outside, and during the summer there is even a pool area. That said, it is only for ages 16 and up and it’s not free for hotel guests according to their website.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review – Food and Beverage
Overall, I thought the Hyatt Regency had very good food and beverage options. The breakfast was good, and the fact that the hotel has a juice bar is impressive. Plus, I thought the club lounge substitute was a very nice gesture.
Club Lounge Substitute
From 4 to 5PM, the Hyatt Regency Lisbon offers a Globalist Happy Hour, which is a club lounge substitute as this hotel does not have one. The happy hour takes place at ViceVersa. During that hour, you can order as much as you want off of the menu above, which is any soft drink, white or red wine, still and sparkling water, sparkling wine, and draft beer. The tapas selection for the one night we went was baba ghanoush. We could order as much as we wanted off of that during that hour.
Overall, it was my first time having it and I found it quite good. I really appreciate the gesture, but it is not as good as a Southeast Asian club lounge would be. We were also the only ones there, so the service was excellent. According to the hotel’s FlyerTalk thread, it looks like they also had hummus and yogurt dips during other people’s stays. For what it’s worth, the restaurant was also closed and only for Globalists. But, we were the only ones there, which made the service excellent.
ViseVersa Restaurant
ViceVersa restaurant is where breakfast is served. It is served from 7AM to 10:30AM Monday through Friday, and it is to 11 on weekends. I am Globalist so we got it for free for 2 adults and 2 children. But, for non-Globalists it is , Eggs Benedict, Avocado Toast, and Fruit Salad are an extra 5 Euros. I would be surprised if Globalists don’t get those for free, but no matter what, these are odd things to charge extra for.
With that being said, the buffet is quite large. I’ve seen larger in Southeast Asia, but I found all of the food to be great quality. I was recovering from being sick earlier, so I didn’t try a lot of the food, unfortunately. There is also Pasteis De Nata, which I found to be very good. The buffet also never got very crowded, and there was stunning views of the 25 de Abril Bridge.

Zest Mind, Body & Soul
Located next to the gym is Zest Mind, Body & Soul, which is a juice bar. When I went around 1PM to take photos, there was no one there besides the employees. When it comes to pricing, I found it to be quite expensive, even for hotel pricing. But at the same time, it is really useful to have a juice bar at a hotel, as it is usually a struggle to eat healthy while away from home. There is also an eating area outside that is a level above with great views of the 25 De Abril Bridge.
Icon Rooftop Bar
Located on the top floor of the hotel is the ICON Rooftop Bar. It is closed during so the winter so it was not open during our stay. That said, the menu is available here.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review – Service
We were only staying for one night, but I found the service at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon to be great. Service is not as good as it is in Asia, but it is very good for Europe.
Hyatt Regency Lisbon Review – Final Thoughts
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon. The location isn’t great if you want to be in the city center of Lisbon, or near the airport. But, if you want to be in the Belém area, like we did, then it is great. I also found our room, amenities, service, and Globalist benefits to be excellent. Thus, if you want to stay in Lisbon, then you can’t go wrong with the Hyatt Regency Lisbon.
