American Airlines: Status Upgrade
(UPDATE: THIS DEAL IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE UNLESS YOU’VE ALREADY BOOKED FLIGHTS) As if I don’t sing the praises of the World Elite Mastercard Benefits enough I think I found the one that takes the cake- a free no strings attached American Airlines Status Upgrade with the lowest requirements we’ve ever seen. Through Mastercard’s partnership with American Airlines, they’ve negotiated a complimentary status upgrade for cardholders who book and fly two round-trips within a 90-day period. Both trips must be completed by March 31, 2021 and you must book through Mastercard Travel & Lifestyle Services (same prices and counts as direct). Let’s be very clear here– there is no competitor status requirement, no qualifying dollar amount and no registration process! I thought my recent Delta Offer was the most generous I’ve seen but this is just bananas. All you need is a World Elite Mastercard which almost everyone has at this point because some of the most popular cards out there like the Chase Freedom Flex and the Citi Double Cash are World Elite and they have NO ANNUAL Fee.
How Do You Get Elite Status on AA Through AAdvantage Promotion
First you’ll have to sign up for the Mastercard Travel Service here. Once you’re logged in click Latest offers and from there you’ll find it after going down a few pages. But you do not have to sign up for the offer, you just have to book through Mastercard.
- To qualify for American Airlines AAdvantage® Gold Status
- book and travel on two domestic round-trip flights (any cabin) OR
- one domestic round-trip flight (main cabin) and one international round-trip flight (main cabin)
- To qualify for American Airlines AAdvantage® Platinum Status,

- Flight bookings must be confirmed through the concierge for the benefit to be applied to the reservation.

- Upgrade status to any level above Platinum is not offered.

Hey Bethany, would I be able to qualify for this promo, if I participated on a match-challenge less than 24 months ago?
Do you need to book with the credit card associated with the login? I have a login but I cancelled the card ahile ago.
AA hubs are very elite heavy. Unless you’re on a feeder route and travel mostly on the region carrier (American Eagle) then upgrades and almost nonexistent on American.
Their hubs are elite heavy with lots of Plat Pro’s and Exex Plat in DFW, LAX, PHL, CLT, PHX, and LGA/JFK so the chance of getting bump with Gold or Platinum is rare.
I am Plat Pro with AA and I’m usually between 30-35% chance of a bump…and those usually happen in less desirable routes run by American Eagle or if I travel in extremely off peak times.
Am I the only one not seeing this under offers …?
I am not sure if it still says it as the offer is in my “past activities” now, but when I was signing up yesterday it said the expiry date was 11/20/2020
I signed up for the offer and got an email confirming the request, but I am unclear how this works. I just buy two round trips with my MasterCard or do I need to register somewhere first? How does it know my AA number?

I signed up last night around 8:30-9:00pm EST. It did have a 11/20 expiry date so maybe that’s why it has disappeared now, but it sounds like (comment below) maybe it will come back

Called Travel.Mastercard and was told that the link has indeed disappeared from website and they were working on getting it back up, possibly by early next week. However, she said, when asked, that if you already had GOLD that you need to complete 1 domestic and 1 International. I asked twice. I am supposed to be getting an email with the information, so far nothing, but will update.
they’re telling me the terms have no provision for existing elites (I’m gold) – if I want platinum, I must complete 2 intl any cabin, or 1 domestic + 1 intl premium cabin

Looks like you don’t have to register for the offer, but of course you have to register to get in the site in order to book through it. Will not count if direct with American, cannot use miles or business extra, or third party..
Sorry to comment again, but offer does not state anywhere how long this Elite status will last. Until 1/31/2022 or a shorter period of time? Offer from 11/01/2020 thru 03/31/2020 between first flight out and 2nd round trip back has to be 90 days. It may take up to 30 days for new Elite status to show up on your account.

thanks for posting your email, Augie – I’m on the phone w/a supervisor at the site and she says there’s no option in the offer terms for existing golds to upgrade to platinum via 2 r/t’s.
I booked my trips on Nov 20 but didn’t grab a screenshot of the terms before the offer was pulled.
Okay, more info from Travel.MasterCard – too much demand in short time period so they rescinded the offer. It’s gone.

never mind – I had the exact same language in my response (if you’re already gold…”) but a supervisor from mastercard travel says regardless of my current status I must complete either 1 intl premium r/t + 1 domestic r/t, or 2 intl any r/t to get platinum.
and they say I can’t get a refund if I cancel the 2 domestic r/t’s I booked.
